Jenis-jenis ekstrakurikuler yang disediakan oleh pihak sekolah terdiri dari beberapa macam. Tentunya terdapat ekstrakurikuler yang harus diikuti oleh semua siswa. Namun, ada pula jenis-jenis yang dapat dipilih sesuka hati sesuai keinginan siswa.
Dikutip dari buku Penguatan Peran Orang Tua dan Sekolah untuk Masa Depan Anak, Eko Setyo Budi (2022:125), ekstrakurikuler merupakan kegiatan yang bertujuan untuk pengembangan karakter dalam rangka perluasan minat, bakat, potensi, dan sebagainya.
Ekstrakurikuler biasanya dilakukan di luar jam belajar kegiatan intrakurikuler serta kegiatan kokurikuler dengan bimbingan serta pengawasan satuan pendidikan. Jadwal kegiatannya umumnya pada saat pulang sekolah maupun saat weekend.
Jenis-Jenis Ekstrakurikuler
Menurut Peraturan Menteri Tahun 2013, jenis kegiatan ekstrakurikuler terdiri dari ekstrakurikuler wajib dan pilihan. Sedangkan menurut Suryosubroto jenis-jenis ekstrakurikuler terbagi menjadi dua, yakni ekstrakurikuler rutin dan periodik. Berikut uraian lengkapnya.
1. Ekstrakurikuler Wajib
Ekstrakurikuler wajib merupakan ekstrakurikuler yang harus diikuti seluruh siswa, bahkan dijadikan persyaratan lulus di rapot. Namun, dapat dikecualikan untuk siswa yang memiliki kondisi tertentu yang tak memungkinkan untuk mengikuti kegiatan tersebut.
Contoh ekstrakurikuler wajib adalah pramuka. Ekstrakurikurikuler ini diatur secara khusus oleh pemerintah dalam Peraturan Permendikbud RI Nomor 63 Tahun 2014. Tujuan dibuatnya peraturan ini adalah untuk membentuk karakter pemuda bangsa Indonesia.
2. Ekstrakurikuler Pilihan
Ekstrakurikuler pilihan adalah program yang bebas diikuti maupun tidak diikuti oleh siswa. Dengan begitu, siswa dapat dengan bebas untuk memilih berbagai ekstrakurikuler pilihan sesuai minatnya.
Contoh ekstrakurikuler pilihan tiap sekolah dapat berbeda-beda, sesuai yang dibuat pihak sekolah. Misalnya, teater, paduan suara, renang, tari, PMR, KIR, dan sebagainya.
3. Ekstrakurikuler Rutin
Ekstrakurikuler rutin ialah ekstrakurikuler yang di dalamnya terdapat jadwal pertemuan rutin yang terus-menerus dilaksanakan. Selain itu, biasanya ekstrakurikuler ini memiliki goals tertentu yang harus dicapai, seperti memenangkan lomba dan kompetisi.
Contoh ekstrakurikuler yang termasuk dalam ekstrakurikuler rutin adalah pramuka, tari, basket, silat, PMR, dan sebagainya. Contoh-contoh ekstrakurikuler tersebut senantiasa membutuhkan latihan rutin untuk meningkatkan keterampilan di bidangnya masing-masing.
4. Ekstrakurikuler Periodik
Ekstrakurikuler periodik merupakan ekstrakurikuler yang kegiatannya dilaksanakan di waktu-waktu tertentu saja. Contoh dari ekstrakurikuler ini ialah pertandingan olahraga, fashion show baju muslim di acara isra miraj, lintas alam, camping, dan sebagainya.
